Re: Calendar Updates
The BCS school board met this week and updates were made to the calendar. The first student day will be Tuesday, September 3, 2024. This is a change from the original plan and we have adjusted the year-long calendar to accommodate this. Parents will receive an “official” calendar in the parent summer mailing that is being sent out next week. It will also be posted on the BCS website at that time.
The summer mailing includes a letter from Chris Perry, athletic director, regarding the start of fall soccer for middle schoolers. The first practice is scheduled for Wednesday, August 28th at 3:00.

The cisterns have arrived. The cisterns will be buried behind the new wing to hold water for the fire sprinkler system.

BCS Construction Update Letter

From the outside, it may not look like much has been going on at BCS in the last month but it has been busy inside. The pictures include: excavation in the new cafeteria, the old kitchen (will be the new technology classroom) and the old staff room (will be a new lower grade classroom).

The building and grounds of Bristol School will be a work site this summer and the school staff and community will not be able to use the building, playground, or ball fields during the months of June, July, and August. The school website will post updates on the progress with the construction and share any changes that may impact the upcoming school year. At this time we anticipate the first student day to be Thursday, August 29th. The office staff will be accessible this summer via phone or email. We will also host office hours at the Superintendent’s Office in Damariscotta. This information will be posted on our website.

The first day of summer was a busy time at Bristol Consolidated School! It is sad to see spaces with so many memories being demo'd but we are very excited to see what new memories will be created in the new spaces!

5th grade historians headed to Colonial Pemaquid to explore the important role Pemaquid played during colonial times. Louis and Jeff Miller shared their knowledge of colonial home life and the important work of the village blacksmith. Ken Hamilton explained the life of a cod fisherman and how fish were prepared for transport back to Europe. Dr. Neill DePaoli took us on a tour of the museum and shared artifacts found at Pemaquid. Belinda Osier brought us to the Angel Gabriel monument, Fort William Henry, and the old cemetery sharing many stories of the people who lived in Colonial Pemaquid. We are so fortunate to have this rich historical site right here in our town. - Mrs. Arzate

BCS fifth graders visited with the volunteers at Caring for Kids to assist with several of their ongoing projects. Students were eager to donate their time packing snack packs, filling family food boxes, cleaning out and replenishing the food pantry, and filling graduation gift bags. They learned all about what this organization does for our community, and how they rely on over 100 hours of volunteer hours each week to make it all happen! -Ms. Kinney
