Principal Darcy Dakin

Dear GSB Families,

I’m so excited and honored to join The Great Salt Bay School as your new principal! With over 20 years in education—including teaching general and special education and working in leadership roles—I can’t wait to connect with students, staff, families, and the community, and to help create a welcoming, supportive place where every student feels valued and ready to learn.

I believe learning is at its best when it’s hands-on and meaningful, helping students connect ideas to real life and sparking a genuine love for learning. I also strongly support the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) approach, which focuses on building a school culture grounded in respect, responsibility, and positive relationships.

As I prepare to move to the region in the near future, I’m very excited to become part of the local community and get to know the people and values that make it so special. I’m eager to learn more about the school’s culture, traditions, and goals, and I look forward to working together to build on the great work already happening at The Great Salt Bay School.

Outside of school, I enjoy traveling and exploring new places. I’m passionate about the outdoors and love activities such as hiking, camping, walking, and jogging. These experiences not only recharge me, but also inspire creativity and reflection—something I bring back to my work as an educator. I see this as a way to model curiosity, lifelong learning, and balance—qualities I hope to foster in our students as they grow both in and out of the classroom.

I’m genuinely excited to begin this new chapter and collaborate with everyone to make sure every student in RSU 48 feels recognized, supported, and motivated to achieve their best. I can’t wait to connect with more members of the community soon.

Sincerely,

Darcy Dakin 🙂
