The 2023 Coin Slam is well under way and the response from students and families has been overwhelmingly generous. It has been great to see students embrace both the spirit of friendly competition and the spirit of giving through the first two days.
The leader after Wednesday's count is the K/5 team! The total money raised so far is $1079! The last day of the Coin Slam is Friday. The Friday bonus is - a quarter counts as 100 points.
A special thanks to the fifth grade for sorting and counting the currency each day! - Ms. Kinney

Fifth grade went to Coastal Rivers where they discussed and discovered ways animals prepare for winter. Additionally, students engaged in conversation about the ways matter moves in the environment. - Ms. Kinney

Sixth grade students went to the Gulf of Maine Research Institute. They researched the warming trends of the Gulf of Maine and studied the impact of the increasing temperature on marine life such as zooplankton, lobsters, black sea bass, and even blue crabs that have been recently showing up in lobster traps. - Mr. Crafts

Please join us at our next PTO meeting, Wednesday at 5:30 in the Art Room.

Day one of the Coin Slam is in the books and we raised $170.60 for Caring for Kids and the New Harbor Food Pantry!
The leader after day one is the Grade 2 and 7 team.
Tomorrow's bonus is - all donations are worth double-points.
Three more days to go.

The 4th grade participates in a monthly visit to the FARMS Kitchen at the YMCA. Students are learning about healthy food choices while learning how to cook. Students learn about local produce and farmers, become independent at following a recipe, and learn basic cooking (and clean up) skills. - Mrs. Arzate

All proceeds benefit Caring for Kids and the New Harbor Food Pantry.

Time to look in all those little places you toss those coins and wrinkled bills because - IT'S BACK! The Coin Slam returns to BCS for the 11th time taking place Tuesday December 12th through Friday December 15th.
Coin Slam 2023 will have teams of grades. The teams are: PK/4, K/5, 1/6, 2/7, and 3/8. The jars will be in the gym lobby from 7:50-8:10 every morning.
Students put money (coins or currency) in "smiley face" jars to add points to their favorite teams. Placing money in "frowny face" jars subtracts points from those teams. Teams will have to strategize to take advantage of, yet to be announced, bonus opportunities.
The Coin Slam has raised over $9,000 in its 10 year run.
The collected money will benefit the New Harbor Food Pantry and the Caring for Kids program.
Parents and community members can make donations at the BCS office during the day.
