The Scholastic Book Fair at NCS did so well this year that NPTO offered a free book to every student in the school. Thanks, NPTO! Go, Lions!

Fourth-graders hosted a Poetry Slam on May 10 for NCS students, staff and family. They read their own original poems, played live music and enjoyed refreshments in Mrs. Courand's classroom.

NCS students in Grades 6-8, including the Center for Alternative Learning (CAL), took a field trip to the Owls Head Transportation Museum on April 26. They viewed exhibits with vintage automobiles, airplanes, bicycles and more, ate lunch and had fun. Go, Lions!

Mrs. York taught scooter safety to NCS kindergartners this week with an obstacle course. It included traffic lights, crosswalks and even a scooter wash! They had fun while learning how to operate scooters safely and even earned driver's licenses. Go, Lions!

The Book Fair is HERE! NPTO will host a spring Scholastic Book Fair (Buy 1, Get 1 Free sale!) May 8-10 at NCS. Hours are 7:45-8:15 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 5-8 p.m. Friday. Sing 2 will be shown Friday during Family Movie Night. See you there!

Eight lucky NCS students won new bikes & helmets courtesy of the local Masons, Order of the Eastern Star and businesses. Puppy Peach Cannoli was a hit with NCS kids during the Bikes for Books presentation April 26. For more details, see the NCS newsletter and the Lincoln County News later this week.

NCS students of all ages from kindergarten to grade 8 took part in a school play Tuesday and Thursday. Lion Productions put on “Frozen,” directed by music teacher Sarah Plummer. There was a school performance for students and staff April 9, followed by a free evening show at Waldo Theatre on April 11. Go, Lions!

The Outing Club 7th graders enjoyed an overnight at HVNC this past weekend and were able to take advantage of (what will hopefully be) the last of the snow! They hiked 1.5 miles out to the Pond Cabin for the night, cooked their own meals on camp stoves, made s'mores and stayed warm with the woodstove, played plenty of card games, and generally bonded through a shared experience. Thanks to the Mid Coast Parkview Health – Lincoln Health Community Health Improvement Fund Grant for funding the gear and cabin rentals, to Mr Anderson, Ms Madden, and Mr Suttmeier who led the two overnight trips, and to all of the students who made the trips the successes that they were!

NCS students will be bringing home eclipse glasses with them today. Excitement was running high at dismissal time! Enjoy the solar eclipse.

Due to the storm, there will be no school at Nobleboro and Great Salt Bay on Thursday, April 4. There will be a remote day at Jefferson, South Bristol, and Bristol unless there are widespread power outages. Stay tuned for a decision on Friday as we see how the storm progresses. Stay safe!

A project designed to bring SMILES to students and staff can be viewed in the NCS Library this week. Third-graders created paintings on canvas with Mrs. Stevens, and those creations will be raffled off Friday, April 5. Just write your name on a slip of paper and drop it in the bucket in front of the painting you'd like to win. Good luck & SMILE! :)

The deadline for Bikes for Books entries is April 1! Any student in Grades 3-6 who hopes to win one of 8 FREE bikes and helmets, courtesy of the local Masonic Lodge, get your entries in now. The drawing will be held the week after April vacation. Happy reading!

Due to the forecasted snowstorm, the Easter Eggstravaganza planned for Saturday has been moved to Sunday (same place, same time). We hope to see you there!!

Second-graders built "Squirrel-Proof Bird Feeders" after hearing the read-aloud "Those Darn Squirrels!" in the library Monday and Tuesday. They used Lincoln Logs, popsicle sticks, wooden blocks, string "lasers," paper, tape, glue and more to create their original contraptions. No squirrels allowed, but go, Lions!

Mrs. Stewart's kindergartners made soup after reading "Stone Soup" last week. They chopped cabbage, onion, potatoes and carrots, measured liquid ingredients into the pot, then waited while it simmered before trying it with a slice of bread. Go, Lions!

Granite Coast Orthodontics staff visited NCS to offer a dental health presentation to students. Here, third-graders in Mrs. Schuster's class learn about proper flossing, brushing and dental care.

NCS celebrated Read Across America and the birthday of Dr. Seuss this week. On Friday kindergartners were served green eggs & ham in the library. Classroom teachers held other special activities all week long. Happy reading!
