On Wednesday, 5/13, GSB's Track & Field team competed at a meet in Wiscasset. Overall, both the girls and boys finished in 3rd place.

Some individual highlights included:

Daisy Rhodes finished 2nd in the 55 meter hurdles.

Tiny Hall finished 1st in the 1600 meters.

In the 200 meter dash Daisy Rhodes finished 4th and Caroline Minzner finished 5th.

Charlotte Wollen finished 1st in high jump, 2nd in the long jump and 1st in the girls triple jump.

In the javelin throw Flynn Mallory came in 5th and Alice Morier came in 6th.

Jakob Iverson finished 1st in the high jump, 2nd in the triple jump and 1st in the 55 meter hurdles.

Gus Bezon finished in 4th in the 55 meter hurdles.

Gavin Griffin finished 2nd in the 100 meter and 200 meter dash.

Garret Scribner came in 2nd in the 800 meter racewalk 3rd in the 800 meter dash.

In the 400 meter dash Jacob Martin came in 2nd and Percy Krawic 3rd. Jacob Martin also came in 5th in 800 meter run.

Liam Booth came in 1st in the 1600 meter run and 4th in the 800 meter run.

Pre-K visited Noble Gardens to make Community Soup and took Ms. Liz's goats for a walk, just like our curriculum story, Community Soup by Alma Fullerton. A very fun morning and our soup was DELICIOUS!!

Congrats to GSB's Track & Field team on a great first meet! On Friday, 5/8, the team competed at Camden where the boys team finished third and the girls team came in fourth place overall.

Melissa Glendenning came into the pre-k along with Kaity Newel to perform a beautiful puppet show and music for our class and Coastal Kids pre-k. After the show, pre-k made their own sock puppets with Melissa and her helper, Owen. Ms. Kaity taught us a song from the show as well.

The musical group Kind Kids came to GSB to perform for pre-k and kindergarten. They sang, danced, shared puppets and had musical instruments for everyone to play and take home. Lots of singing and movement fun!

On Tuesday, 5/5, the GSB softball team hosted Wiscasset and came up short 20-18. The girls mounted a huge comeback effort and almost caught them. On Thursday, 5/7, the softball team went to Nobleboro and lost 26-14.

This week the GSB baseball team hosted Wiscasset and won 12-4. Congrats to Miles Bowdoin and Michael Pinkham who each hit out-of-the park homeruns.

Next up, GSB's baseball and softball teams head to Richmond on Monday, 5/11, for a 3:45 pm game.

Straw's Farm gave GSB students a great tour of their family farm, and sent us back with some of their delicious pork sausage to use at our end of year Agriculture pizza party. You can find their products at the Damariscotta Farmers Market on Fridays. We have spent the year working on a pizza unit where we have learned how to grow and process tomatoes, basil, garlic, and wheat. Today we learned more about sausage, and next up is making mozzarella. We are so grateful to farms like @strawsfarm for growing and raising food for their neighbors.

Back in the fall, these students tracked growth, monitored water quality, and ensured our Sugar Kelp and Alaria were strong enough to make it in the wild. We’re o-fish-ally amazed to see the final results! It’s been a months-long learning journey that proves big things have small (classroom-grown) beginnings. Now they will be taking their freshly harvested results over to FARMS kitchen to try preparing their kelp into a delicious dish!

On Friday, 5/1, GSB's softball and baseball teams went to Medomak for games. The softball team lost 17-3. The baseball team won 15-7.

Next up, on Tuesday, 5/5, both teams will host Wiscasset at GSB at 3:45 pm. Come watch the games and grab dinner at the snack shack!
